Happiness Resides
Bhutan is as peaceful a country as you would ever like to come across. The prosperity of the nation and its people is measured by an index called Gross National Happiness (GNH), as opposed to Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This, of course, prioritizes overall happiness of the citizens to merely their economic well-being.
Until recently, Bhutan was a kingdom under the sole governance of the Wangchuk rulers. Though the traditional monarchy has given way to democracy, the royal family, which has been the harbinger of manifold reforms, continues to be held in high esteem. As opposed to suppressing the people under tyrannical high-handedness, the Bhutanese kings aimed at eliciting the love of their people.
The result is a peaceful Bhutan with its delightful people and delighted guests.
